I use nothing but Manual, no matter who I control. Maybe that's why you can't play Judith properly. You have to play Judith in manual otherwise it's really hard...cause don't you need to hold guard before you can jump? And that is the key, up normal attack on the ground to knock the enemy into the air (Judith's up attack on the ground was designed for this purpose), then jump. I've played "Tales of" games on Manual since it was available without needing an accessory (the original Tales of Destiny) to activate it (Tales of Eternia has manual mode! \o/).
It's better to play Yuri in Manual too :S I actually find that guarding with Yuri when he has Glory equipped is a waste of time, cause he can get staggered if he guards >__> I'd very much prefer to dash off instead XD
Raven might be easier for some people to play in Semi-Auto, but I don't like it when the attack distance is not right then the controlled character has to run within attack range -_- I like having full control of my character...
