eternal_rena: (Yuri spying)
Attempting to catch Darkrai at the moment with a Timid nature and IVs that are on par with my Dialga and Palkia (above average overall or higher, fantastic SP.ATK or SPD stat as reported by the IV guy in the Battle Tower). Bit tedious, but whatever. I'd like to get rare Pokemon that I'm going to use to be as high stat as possible...

For those that are interested, this is my setup, especially if you intend to be tanking Darkrai over and over until you catch one that you're satisfied with.

DARKRAI @ Lv 50
Hypnosis
Nightmare
Faint Attack
Double Team

Since my main team are all already Lv 85+ (I actually have 7 Pokemon at Lv 85+...so you could say I have 7 Pokemon in my main team but I can only bring 6...), it basically isn't too much of an issue for me to tank for a really long time. I only brought 5 Pokemon with me though, so that I can check for Darkrai's nature and stats faster when I catch it.

MOVES USED
RAICHU - Thunder Wave
To Paralyze Darkrai. While Paralyze doesn't increase your catch chance by that much compared to Sleep, I prefer Paralyze cause it lasts forever and it cuts speed in half and a 30% chance to prevent Pokemon from attacking. Lead with the Pokemon that has Thunder Wave and use it on Darkrai on the first turn.

TORTERRA - Safeguard
To protect from Hypnosis. You DO NOT WANT to be falling asleep against Darkrai. It has Nightmare, while it gets weaker the lesser HP your Pokemon has left, it can still cut quite a fair amount of HP. Also, it's ability Bad Dreams kills off a certain % of your max HP per turn when you are asleep. This move is a MUST, but please don't bring in a Pokemon that is weak against Dark type attacks to use it, cause this Pokemon will be the one you'll want to have to be tanking against Darkrai once you start throwing balls at it.

GARCHOMP - False Swipe
To easily bring Darkrai to 1 HP. My Garchomp is Lv 85 with an Adamant nature. Takes two False Swipes to bring Darkrai to 1 HP.

HOUNDOOM - Odor Sleuth
Try to have a Pokemon with Foresight or Odor Sleuth with you so that you can negate the effects of Double Team. You don't want your moves to be missing, especially if the Pokemon using it isn't the one with Safeguard.

TORTERRA - Synthesis
You don't really need a healing move, but if your tank has it, then use it. Although Synthesis is not as effective once it's night time...but healing items solve this easily.

Items to bring with you
Lava Cookie/Full Heal/Awakening - To get rid of sleep in case you get caught by Hypnosis on a turn when you don't have Safeguard up.

Moomoo Milk and/or Hyper Potions - To heal your tank of course. What to bring will depend on how much HP your tank has. And Moomoo Milk is cheap.

Whatever PokeBalls - If you're able to put Darkrai into your PokeDex, then use Repeat Balls. If not, you might want to catch it at night when Dusk Balls are effective. It not, then Ultra Balls and then switch to Timer Balls when your number of turns goes to around 30+. Bring as many as you can!

I hope I can get a Darkrai I'm satisfied with soon. I wonder how long it will take me...
